2 killed, 6 injured in Russian airstrike in Sumy Oblast, including child

On the morning of September 13, regional authorities reported that a in the village of Yampil in Oblast resulted in the death of two civilians and injured six others, including a 4-year-old child. This attack is part of ‘s increased strikes against , a region located at ‘s border with Russia, following Ukraine’s incursion into neighboring Oblast.

The attack, which occurred at around 9 a.m. local time, involved four explosions as aircraft dropped KAB bombs on civilian infrastructure. The aftermath of the airstrike, captured in photos released by the Sumy Oblast Prosecutor’s Office on , shows damage to multi-story buildings and a hospital. The energy supply in the village was also disrupted.

According to prosecutors, the fatalities included a 60-year-old man who was driving through the village and a 54-year-old man who died later in the hospital. The regional administration stated that all relevant services are working on the scene. Yampil, which had a population of over 4,000 before the war, is located approximately 20 kilometers (12 miles) from the Russian border and 130 kilometers (80 miles) from the regional center, Sumy.

In response to the intensifying , Ukrainian authorities have ordered evacuations from several border settlements in Sumy Oblast. The situation remains tense as the conflict between Ukraine and Russia continues to escalate.
