According to Governor Vyacheslav Gladkov, a missile attack carried out by Ukraine on the morning of Sept. 16 caused injuries to at least eight people in the Russian city of Belgorod. One of the victims is in critical condition, while the others sustained moderate injuries. Belgorod is the regional center of Belgorod Oblast, which shares borders with Ukraine’s Sumy, Kharkiv, and Luhansk oblasts. Russia has been using this region to launch attacks against Ukraine.
Governor Gladkov stated on his Telegram channel that the attack resulted in one house being completely burned down and 15 cars catching on fire due to a “direct hit.” He also claimed that the facades of 21 apartment buildings were damaged, along with four other houses. The governor also alleged that a gas pipeline was damaged in the attack.
Footage shared on local Telegram channels showed burning cars and damaged buildings in the city. The village of Dubovoe, located just south of Belgorod, also reportedly suffered damage to an apartment building, a house, and a garage.
So far, Ukraine has not commented on the attack. The Kyiv Independent was unable to verify all of the claims made by Governor Gladkov. However, the Belgorod Oblast authorities have accused Ukraine of launching attacks on the region and the city of Belgorod multiple times during the ongoing war. In recent times, there have been several clashes reported in the region as Ukraine continues its cross-border incursion into neighboring Kursk Oblast.
