Georgian Dream MP Guram Makarashvili criticised the October 20 rally to support Georgia’s European Integration. He attributed the low turnout of the rally to “Tbilisi Pride”, and its push for same sex marriages, which he claimed the majority of the society rejects.
Macharashvili asked why it was surprising the majority of Georgians did not attend, given the rally’s association with “Tbilisi Pride”, and their alleged call for the legalization same-sex marriage. He said that despite the month-long preparation by opposition forces, foreign actors, NGOs and the European Union the rally failed to meet expectations.
Why is it surprising that most of the society does not attend the action organized by ‘Tbilisi Pride,’ which demands the legalization marriage for men?
Macharashvili said that even the participation of international figures such as MEPs and Congressmen in organizing the event did not attract much public support because it did not align the values of the majority. He also said that outside forces could mislead a small number of citizens, but the rally’s attendance reflected a wider rejection of the agenda.
“The majority of Georgians will not attend a rally of this kind and neither will those organizations who want to start war.”
Macharashvili believes the low attendance at the rally is a sign that the Georgian society prefers peace, tradition, and sovereignty.
“On October 26th, the majority of society will confirm its choice for peace, tradition, and sovereignty.”
