Giorgi Gakharia (leader of “Gakharia For Georgia”) responded to threats made by Bidzina Ivanishvili (honorary chairman of “Georgian Dream“), stating that Ivanishvili’s behavior shows desperation and a loss of emotional control.
Gakharia said that Ivanishvili’s threats and blackmail were not new but the public nature in which he made his comments was unprecedented. These included threats of criminal charges and arrests against him and his team.
Gakharia said: “This is not Ivanishvili’s first threat… This is the first public threat this man has made to criminal cases and arrests.”
He said that Ivanishvili’s threats showed a lack in rationality, and revealed a feeling of desperation. He also asserted that the citizens of Georgia have doubts about Ivanishvili’s sanity.
Gakharia said that “such desperate and frightened persons as BidzinaIvanishvili… there is no threat maker but it appears that he has lost emotional control.”
Gakharia accused Ivanishvili, of equating a personal disagreement with treason. He believes this undermines the integrity and credibility of the political discourse in Georgia. He also mentioned the provocateurs that “Imedi” allegedly sent to assert Ivanishvili’s perceived strength before the elections.
“What we heard was that he traded the country’s orientation towards foreign countries for money… Those who personally disagreed with Ivanishvili… were all traitors,” Gakharia continued.
Ivanishvili called Gakharia “unfortunate”, and criticised members of his own party for echoing the narratives of the “National Movement,” suggesting that they deserve punishment for the actions they have committed. He stressed that the “Georgian Dream”, which is not actively fighting the opposition, has had no positive results.
