According to the Prosecutor General’s Office in Ukraine, Andrii Kostin announced his resignation. Kostin is stepping aside following a draft dodging scandal that involved Ukrainian officials, including Prosecutor General’s Office employees, who reportedly received disability certificates by paying bribes, to avoid serving with the Ukrainian Army. According to Ukrainian law individuals with disabilities receive benefits and are exempted from military service. Currently, criminal investigations and checks are being conducted at all levels of the government regarding fake disability documents among government officials. Prosecutor Kostin agreed with Ukrainian President Zelenskyy that personal responsibility was required for the lack investigation into these criminal cases. In this situation, however, I feel it is appropriate to resign as Prosecutor-General,” Kostin stated. On 4 October, the State Bureau of Investigation revealed that Tetiana Krapa, head of Khmelnytskyi Regional Medical-Social Expertise Center and her son who held a management position at the Pension Fund of Khmelnytskyi were caught in illegal enrichment. In searches, more than $6 million was found in cash, including $100,000 at Krupa’s Khmelnytskyi office. Later, it was revealed that 50 prosecutors in Khmelnytskyi oblast had registered to be disabled. Media outlets linked Krupa to these cases.Earlier, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy initiated a meeting of the National Security and Defense Council to address the work of the Medical-Social Expertise Commissions.Commenting on the situation, he condemned the “audacity of individuals, including prosecutors, who used their connections with the MSEC to falsely claim disabilities.” The president also stated that he expects swift actions from law enforcement, including the Prosecutor General’s Office.Read more:
