The 2024 IWA Winter Fair, organized annually by the International Women‘s Association of Georgia, with the support of a wider expat and diplomat community, has been cancelled.
IWAG announced the cancellation on social media. “We are saddened by the fact that many of our beneficiaries won’t be able to receive our assistance as a result of this cancellation.”
Some suspect that this is due to the new “foreign agents law” of Georgian Dream.
One IWAG representative said, “This was an emotional decision.” “I am grateful to each embassy representative and every volunteer for their supportive words over the past few weeks.”
IWAG is among the few organizations that can provide small grants quickly to individuals who are in need of medical assistance or cancer treatment. They also provide grants to newly-founded organizations and initiatives who would otherwise struggle to raise funds. They do this by living and working in the community and observing up-close the work of these organisations.
IWAG can support a variety of projects and help those in need by providing a place for small business owners and entrepreneurs to sell and display their products before the New Year holiday.
The IWA Winter Fair raises 150,000 to 180,000 GEL per year to support these efforts.
The association wrote: “We hope that we will soon be able resume our fundraising work and charity work in full force.”
