Volodymyr Zelensky, the president of Ukraine, told journalists on October 21 that Germany “still has skepticism about Ukraine joining NATO” because it fears Russia’s reaction.

The President expressed his hope that Washington would react “more positively” after the U.S. Presidential election in early November.
Zelensky, in a conversation with journalists, did not exclude the possibility that “some partners” might consider Ukraine’s NATO membership in exchange for occupied territories.
He said, “We don’t discuss this.” “This invitation does not, in my opinion, depend on Russia’s view. We will see a positive result when other partners believe that they are stronger than Russia.
Zelensky stated that the invitation to NATO membership extends to all internationally recognized borders in the country.
“This isn’t just an invitation. It’s an invitation while the conflict is still ongoing.” Diplomacy is the next step.
Zelensky made his remarks just days after he unveiled publicly his five-point plan for victory, which included Kyiv’s invitation of joining NATO at the top. U.S. The ambassador to NATO, Julianne Smith, said that NATO does not have such plans at this time.
