Interagency Coordination Council, led by Irakli Garibashvili Prime Minister of Georgia today, discussed the current epidemic stance in Georgia, the level of patient-occupancy in hospitals and the process of vaccination at its meeting at the Government Administration.
The number of people infected in the country is increasing due to a high rate of community transmission of the Omicron strain. The number of patients at hospitals has not increased. Specialists believe Omicron will progress gently among vaccinated people – similar to Delta strain – without the need for hospitalization. It was again stressed that booster doses were crucial for a milder virus.
The Interagency Coordination Council urges Georgian citizens to engage in mass vaccination, wear facemasks, and practice social distance. The Government of Georgia has decided to extend its 200 GEL incentive program until the end of January 2020 to ensure that people over 50 years old get Covid-vaccinated. This is to encourage the engagement in mass immunization.
The timelines for isolation and quarantine were also adjusted to reflect the current week. Unvaccinated, recovered, and asymptomatic patients will be quarantined for 8 days. Patients with a medium to acute viral infection, however, must quarantine themselves for 10 days. In both cases, a facemask must be worn for 5 days following isolation.
Since the first detection of COVID-19 in Georgia, 1,006.864 cases have been confirmed by lab testing. 934,667 people have recovered, and 14,512 have died.
Currently, there are 2050 people in clinical hotels and 4465 in healthcare facilities that are under medical supervision.
