I am pleased with our unity. Many people have gathered today for one purpose – to let the world know that the people in Georgia will never abandon their homeland, their faith, or their freedom! Kakha Kaladze, General Secretary of the “Georgian Dream“, addressed the supporters at the Tbilisi pre-election gathering.
Kakha Kaladze has recalled the pre-election atmosphere of 2012 and expressed his hope that Georgia will overcome all challenges as it did then.
“Friends, the city has never lost its loyalty towards the motherland. It was always the place where the fate of both the country and mother church were decided. For a Georgian, faith and homeland are inseparable. You are Georgia, and you are the people that, in these difficult times, must once more lead the homeland to a peaceful life!
I look at you, and I remember when, 12 years ago, we gathered here and, full of hope and optimism, we told each other we would put an end to injustice, evil, and the bloody regime that ruled our country. We were able, under the leadership of Bidzina, to achieve this goal, and, most importantly, we did so in a peaceful and bloodless manner. Since then, the country has changed dramatically. The media is now free, business is open, and no one abuses or tortures citizens in the name the state. Today, we have peace, freedom and one of the fastest-growing economies in the entire world. We also have a state which does not oppress or abuse its citizens but instead cares and supports them.
Together, we’ve come a long, long way in the past 12 years. We’ve implemented many reforms and today, we are a true democratic country that deserves a future in Europe by all objective criteria.
Anyone who wants to can see it. We want Europe and a European future but not the way outsiders tell us to. We will not be someone else’s vassal. We cannot be the executors who carry out orders against the country. We will not abandon the interests of Georgia.
