Tbilisi, at the initiative of Tbilisi City Hall and as a result the consideration of the application that was submitted to UNESCO became a member the UNESCO Creative Cities Network.
This status is aimed at the development of media arts and the implementation of long-term or one-time projects over the next four-year period.
“Tbilisi is the UNESCO World Book Capital since several months. This time, we joined another large creative network within the same organization. Tbilisi will face many challenges in the next four years, including innovative steps and responsibilities. This will allow Tbilisi to become a creative hub by implementing projects of global importance.
The four-year program will include digital art, photography and painting, multimedia art as well as video game creation, interactive medium, and other innovative project.
Tbilisi is not the only city to join the network. 48 other cities from around the globe have also joined. Batumi will be implementing the project in the music field.
Since 2004, the UNESCO Network of Creative Cities (UNESCO-CCC) has brought together 295 cities in 90 countries to implement projects that cover media, music and cinematography, gastronomy and design, folklore and handicrafts, as well as gastronomy.
