The Ministry of Internal Affairs reports that 11 people have been arrested on administrative charges so far during today’s protest against the “Russian Law.”
Pepper spray was used by law enforcement officers against the protesters. The physical confrontation between demonstrators and special forces continues. Special police forces and water cannons are ready to deploy.
The Public Defender of Georgia has called on the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) to protect the freedom of speech and assembly of all Georgian citizens in a secure environment and to adhere to the relevant international standards if force is used.
The crowds were happy for the first few hours, singing, chanting, and shouting, “No Russian law.”
The first reading of the draft “On Transparency of Foreign Influence” will be held tomorrow, April 17, in the plenary session.
