US Senator Jeanne Shaheen expressed concern about the “ability of Georgia to hold free and fair” elections after the US research group “Atlantic Council” searched the homes of its Georgian employees.
She told The Hill about this.
“The Georgians and the civil society are entitled to have their voices heard and respected. This is the principle that underpins any healthy democratic system.
He said: “I hope the government of Georgia studies these specific reports, and takes them seriously”.
Yesterday morning, October 24, the Ministry of Finance‘s investigative service entered the homes of Sofo Gelava, and Eto Buziashvili, two Georgian employees of “Atlantic Council”, an American company. According to Sopho Glava, officers from the law enforcement told her that a number of investigations were underway, including money laundering involving the contractor HR company for the “Atlantic Council”.
The Atlantic Council is deeply concerned by the incident and hopes the authorities will shed more light on the matter to ensure the safety of its employees.
The Ministry of Finance’s investigative service entered the homes of Sofo Buziashvili and Eto Gelava, two Georgian employees of American research organization Atlantic Council. Sofo gelava reported that law enforcement officers informed her that several investigations were underway, including money-laundering related to the contractor HR firm of the Atlantic Council.
The Atlantic Council, also known as Think Tank in the United States, was founded in 1961. Sofo Glava and Eto Buzashvili both work to expose Russian propaganda and disinformation.
