The German Chancellor reiterated that he would not accept an immediate NATO invitation to Ukraine and would refuse to transfer Taurus missiles.
Olaf Scholz, the German Chancellor, has stated that no further decision is required regarding Ukraine’s NATO invite beyond existing agreements. He reiterated that transferring Taurus missiles to Ukraine was “wrong,” and would lead to an “escalation,” which could mean the outbreak of major war.
Zelenskyy’s recently announced “victory plan” lists Ukraine’s invitation to NATO at the top of its list. It is framed as essential for lasting security and as a deterrent to further Russian aggression. Germany is one of the NATO member states that has opposed Ukraine’s request for an immediate invitation to the Alliance. Berlin has been refusing for months to send Ukraine Taurus missiles, despite Ukraine’s appeals and requests to other Western allies. The most common restriction for these restrictions is the possibility of “escalation.”

Speaking to ZDF on 24th October, Scholz said that Ukraine’s firm NATO outlook is an essential prerequisite for Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy‘s victory plan. But, he added, “as long as the military alliance does not issue a clear invitation, it remains unclear what the definition of success is.”
He said that former NATO Secretary-General Stoltenberg hinted, in an interview, that “only shrunken Ukraine” will become a NATO Member, meaning after “ceding territories to Russia for secure border.” However, there will be no decisions about Ukraine made without Ukraine. This was reiterated at his recent meeting with US, UK and French leaders.
