The US Embassy in Tbilisi released a statement in which it said that the was deeply disturbed and frustrated by the unilateral decision made by the to withdraw from the 19th Agreement.

“The United States are deeply disturbed and exasperated at the unilateral decision by the Dream Party to withdraw from the Agreement of April 19th, a document that was established after six months of difficult, but collaborative and which provides an urgently needed way forward for the Georgians and their . The Agreement was signed by 115 MPs representing at least six out of nine parties elected in Georgia. They pledged to work in good faith together to reduce the deep polarization which is impeding Georgian democracy’s progress. is becoming increasingly concerned about Georgia’s repeated setbacks in its democratic future.
“All signatories should be held responsible for their commitments under the Agreement.” Georgian Dream’s withdrawal unilaterally is a further deviation from the spirit and letter of the negotiations Georgian Dream took part in and the agreement that they signed. We continue to call on all parties to sign the agreement and fully implement it. This decision by the ruling group only creates political instability in the , and raises doubts about Georgian Dream’s commitment to achieving Georgia’s democratic goals – goals that Georgian Dream set for the .
“Georgia will serve its interests best if the concrete judicial and constitutional reforms agreed in the Agreement are implemented through multiparty consensus rather than unilateral action by one party. The most responsible way to stop Georgia’s cycle political crises is to implement these reforms as soon as possible. This is also critical to Georgia’s Euro-Atlantic goals. Instability and division are only beneficial to those who want to undermine Georgia’s success in being a stable, prosperous democratic state.
“The Agreement lays a useful roadmap of important reforms needed to strengthen Georgia’s democratic institutions, reduce the politicization in the , improve Georgia’s electoral system, power-sharing within the Parliament and continue efforts to reinforce the rule of law. These reforms remain urgently necessary and should be adopted by a multiparty, inclusive process.
