China denies knowing about the presence of North Korean troops within Russia, while the EU condemns it

China claims that it lacks information about North Korean troops deployed to Russia, while the European Union strongly condemns the reported military collaboration in October 2024.
North has provided Russia with and for its war against . Ukraine and South Korea have reported that 3,000 North Korean soldiers, including special forces are training in Russia’ Far East. Both Russia and North Korea are involved in the deployment. These troops, if deployed in Ukraine, would reinforce Russia’s depleted force amid ongoing losses.
Lin Jian, the spokesperson for the Chinese Foreign Ministry, stated at a regular press briefing October that “China has no information” about North Korean troops in Russia. Lin Jian reiterated China’s stance on the ongoing full-scale Russian invasion, which calls “the Ukraine crisis,” saying
“We hope that all parties will work to deescalate the situation and achieve a political solution.”
The European Union responded sternly the same day to reports that had sent troops to join Russia’s war against Ukraine.
In a press release issued by the Council, the EU’s High Representative stated that “This would be a serious violation of international law including the most basic principles of the UN Charter.” The statement stressed that this is “a unilateral hostile action by the DPRK, with serious consequences for European peace and security and global peace.”
The EU condemned the growing military cooperation between North Korea, Russia and China, saying that it “violates” multiple resolutions of the UN Security Council. The Council’s statement highlighted its concerns over Russia’s shift in position on North Korean denuclearization. It noted that “Russia relinquishes key obligations under the Non-Proliferation Treaty.”
