Irakli Kobakhidze, the Prime Minister of Georgia, held a press conference during which he claimed to have a “peaceful” environment for the elections. He stated that more than 3,100 of Georgia‘s 3111 polling stations operated without any issues despite numerous reports of violence.
He accused opposition-leaning television stations of exacerbating the tensions, and questioned their timing in covering incidents. He suggested that many incidents had been staged or incited on the ground by journalists.
Kobakhidze claimed that the Georgian Dream Party has achieved a “landslide win,” but he also noted that a majority constitutional is not yet guaranteed. He urged citizens to cast their ballots. He repeated the GD narrative, framing elections as a choice of “war and peace,” between “immoral propaganda” and traditional values,” or “the dark past and bright future of Georgia”.
