“I went Georgia for the first time in 1990. Glasnost made it possible. After that I visited Georgia many times. In the 1990s, I saw what was happening in Georgia and asked myself: What can I do to assist? I decided to help Georgia to connect with the Western , as this was what they most wanted. My way of doing this was to organize summer language courses in . We recruited American volunteers to teach the courses for 6 weeks every summer, over a period of several years. After that, Georgia became better organized, and the teaching English became official. They didn’ need my help anymore. I kept in touch with Georgia, the Georgian colonies of the US and Paris and living there.”
