Tamar Zhvania has resigned as Chairwoman of Central Election Commission. She announced her resignation on Facebook.
Zhvania announced: “I have decided to not extend my term as Chairwoman of Central Election Commission of Georgia past July 1. This will allow political parties the opportunity to elect a CEC chairperson on the basis of the revised election code.”
She said that she believes the election regulations adopted by Charles Michel under his agreement have brought about a new reality. Therefore, she considers that the election of a chairperson of Central Election Commission in accordance with the new rule will contribute to a broad political consensus.
Zhvania wrote: “I am confident that the decision I made will increase the chances of constructive relations between political forces. This will in turn help the election administration, upcoming elections, and our entire country.”
Tamar Zhvania was the Chairwoman of Central Election Commission in the last eight years. She recalls that during this time there were many challenges, difficulties and successes. Zhvania thanked CEC, members of the election commission, and the media, for their selfless efforts.
“I would like make some additional remarks to the press!” This statement is enough for me and I don’t plan to give any more interviews or comments. I will not be taking any political or state positions. “I am returning to my international work and my future plans will be again and only related with the activities of international organizations,” stated Tamar Zhvania.
