The preliminary results will be released soon. More than 3,000 voting stations closed around 8 pm with a turnout of 58,94% in Georgia’s parliamentary elections on October 26. Three exit polls revealed wildly contrasting results that led both the ruling and opposition parties to celebrate their victories.
According to the Central Election Commission, 2,060 412 voters had cast their ballots by 8 pm, which represents 58,94%.
CEC stated that the data on turnout does not include data from expatriate citizens and that data from five polling places in mountainous areas is still pending.
The turnout in this election was lower than the historic 2012 race that brought Georgian Dream to power. It was also 3% lower than it was in 2020, when it reached 56.1%.
The ballots in electronic voting precincts (which make up 90% of all precincts) will be counted using technology. Preliminary official results are expected within hours after the polls have closed. This will not include the 10% of voters who used a traditional, non electronic voting procedure.
The CEC will announce the final results in the morning of October 27 after all ballots, both from traditional and electronic voting precincts, have been manually counted.
