Irakli Kobakhidze of the Georgian Dream announced that the Georgian Dream’s Chairman, Irakli Kobakhidze has informed the media that the Georgian Dream is preparing a request for accelerated EU Membership, which will officially be presented to the EU structures tomorrow on behalf of Georgian government.
He said that the EU structures were called to review the application in an urgent mode and make a final decision on whether or not to grant Georgia the status as an EU candidate.
“The opposition has created artificial agitation over this issue, ironically assessing our ambitious program plan of applying for EU membership in 2020 and receiving EU candidate status.
“This agitation has also the sole purpose to link the statement with the imposition sanctions and Georgia’s participation in the armed conflicts. We reiterate that the imposition and involvement of Georgia in any military conflict will have the most severe consequences for our country, and the people of Georgia.
“We categorically reject any attempt to link the candidate status with EU membership or engage a country in hostilities. No one in the EU wants an economically weak country. He said that if the country had been aggravated by war and sanctions, it would have lost all hope of joining the European Union.
