Ukraine intercepts 44 of 91 Russian drones in overnight assault, sharp drop in defense rate

Russia launched an air assault on Ukraine over night on 26 October using 91 drones. Ukrainian air defenses only intercepted 44 of the total – less that half. This is a significant drop from the usual 80-90% success rate.

According to the Force (UADF), air units engaged enemy UAVs in nine regions. The highest interceptions occurred in Sumy Oblast. Ten more Russian drones were lost because of technical failures. One strayed into Belarus, and three returned to Russia.
The attack included seven
Three /KN-23 ballistic rockets
Two -59 guided missiles
* Two unidentified missiles.
No interceptions reported of these missiles.
The attacks resulted in multiple civilian casualties
* A missile strike in Dnipro killed four people including the family of a local policeman
* In a Russian drone killed a 14-year old girl when it hit a high rise apartment building
* In Kyiv oblast, debris from drones intercepted killed a woman and injured a boy aged 13 years.
In Oblast – home to one of Ukraine’s four nuclear power stations – Russian strikes caused a total blackout in the regional’s capital and four nearby settlements.
