The Ministry of Internal Affairs issued a statement about the removal and burning of EU flags outside the Parliament building. It noted that law enforcement officers would identify and fine violators.
“The Ministry of Internal Affairs has launched administrative proceedings on the basis of Article 17418 of the Code of Administrative Offenses. This implies desecration of symbols of the European Union or the North Atlantic Treaty Organization, or other international organisations, or desecration of flags or coats of arms of another state.
The law enforcement officers will identify violators and fine them. The Ministry of Internal Affairs urges rally participants near the Parliament to respect the law’s limits on freedom of expression and assembly, and to obey the lawful requests of the police.
The police will stop each act of violation immediately and will then take a strict legal action,” reads the official statement.
Participants in the rally held by the violent pro-Russian Alt-Info in front the parliament building earlier today tore down and burned the EU flag. In its place, they hung the Georgian national flag.
