The reconstruction of April 9, Street in Tbilisi is complete.
The Municipal Infrastructure Development Service of Tbilisi City Hall managed the project. It involved replacing underground communication with new cables, installing lighting systems and renewing asphalt road covers and pavement.
The cost of the reconstruction work was GEL 1.5 million.
April 9 Street was named after a tragic event in modern Georgian history.
The April 9 tragedy, also known as The Massacre of Tbilisi (or Tbilisi Tragedy), refers to events that occurred in Tbilisi on April 9, 1989 when a pro-independence, anti-Soviet demonstration was crushed by Soviet Army, leading to 21 deaths and hundreds injuries. The annual public holiday, Day of National Unity, is celebrated on April 9.
