The Ukrainian Prosecutor’s General Office has launched an investigation into Russian War Crimes.
The Office of the Prosecutor General of Ukraine launched an investigation into war crimes allegedly committed by Russian forces in Selydove.
In 2024, Russia will intensify the execution of Ukrainian prisoners of war. Ukrainian officials and UN reports have documented these acts as systemic abuse, violating Geneva Conventions. The trend raises concern that the Kremlin may be shifting its focus to eliminating POWs. Russian forces also kill civilians by airstrikes and artillery.
According to the office of the Prosecutor-General, the incident that involved a civilian car was captured on video. It occurred on 24th October. The footage shows Russian forces firing automatic weapons at a civilian vehicle carrying two people. One of the victims was injured.
The prosecutor’s report stated that Ukrainian military personnel arrived on the scene and provided first aid to the injured civilians. They also evacuated people from the area under fire.
In a separate incident in Selydove, two women were allegedly killed by Russian forces. The prosecutor general’s office said that the bodies of civilian casualties were discovered in a residential neighborhood that had suffered little damage during active combat. This suggests that the killings took place after Russian forces gained control of the territory.
An investigation has been opened into possible violations of the laws and customs governing war.
