Russia bombs residential areas of Ukraine’s 1.4-million-populated city

Kharkiv was hit daily by guided bombs from , resulting in four injuries on 28 October.
Local officials reported that in the early morning hours of October 28, Russian forces attacked Kharkiv, ‘s second largest city. They struck near a nine story residential building, causing four injuries.
Volodymyr Zelenskyy, the president of Ukraine, said that this was just one of more than 1,100 guided bomb attacks by in the last week. Ukraine does not have the capability to destroy Russian airfields or shoot down aircraft from a distance.
The attack took place in the Kholodnohirskyi District of Kharkiv. It caused significant damage to upper floors and the windows of the apartment building. After the attack, a fire broke out in the vicinity of the residential complex.
“Several explosions have been heard in Kharkiv.” Ihor Terekhov, Kharkiv’s mayor, warned on Telegram to be cautious as the enemy could conduct repeated attacks. Regional Governor Oleh Syniehubov warned residents to stay in shelters.
According to Governor Syniehubov, Russian forces also attacked Chuhuiv, a city in . The extent of the damage is still being assessed.
Emergency services are working on the attack sites to address the damage and assist affected residents.
This latest attack follows a Russian attack on Kharkiv that took place just hours earlier on the evening of October 27, when Russian forces used guided air bombs on the city’s Saltivskyi & district, resulting in also four injuries.
The Russian strategy of persistently targeting major is evident in the continuous strikes on Kharkiv. This city, which had a population of 1.4 millions before the , is located near Russia’s border.
