Canada sends first armored combat vehicles to Ukraine

Operation UNIFIER of the Canadian Armed Forces announced on October 26 that Canada had provided Ukraine with a shipment of Light Armored Vehicles 6.0 ACSVs specially configured as ambulances.
The Armored Combat Support Vehicles are an extension of LAV 6.0 vehicles currently in service with Canada’s army.
The exact number of vehicles is still unknown, but this delivery comes following extensive training in Germany for Ukrainian personnel.
This contribution is part and parcel of Canada’s ongoing assistance to Ukraine which has reached nearly $4.5 billion in the last few years. In September 2023 Canada committed to transfer 50 LAV 6. ACSV to Ukraine in a three-year span as part of $650 million investment.
After the operator and maintenance training of the ACSV, ambulance version, in Germany, vehicles were loaded and sent to Ukraine.

Canada announced earlier this year that it would provide additional support. This included 80,840 CRV-7 motors, 1300 warheads and machine guns, pistols and M113 chassis.
Canada has not placed any geographical restrictions on Ukraine using Canadian-donated armored vehicles and tanks. This policy places Canada among countries such as Germany, the U.S. and the U.K. that have approved the use of most Western-supplied gear in Ukraine’s current operation in Russia’s Kursk Oblast.
Alexander Gusev, regional governor of Voronezh Oblast in Russia, said via his official Telegram Channel that debris from drones that fell to the ground struck two industrial sites on the evening October 27.
