PM Meets with European Commission Oliver Varhelyi

As part of his trip to Brussels today, met with Oliver Varhelyi. The meeting focused key directions Georgia-EU relations as well as the agenda for the upcoming Eastern Partnership Summit. The parties stressed the importance of ensuring the summit’ policy declaration reflects the issues that are most important to Georgia. The meeting reaffirmed the strategic importance of Eastern Partnership for the EU and reaffirmed strong support for Georgia’s territorial integrity and sovereignty. During the meeting, Georgia’s Head of Government highlighted such important issues as gradual integration into EU single market, empowering , digital connectivity, and tapping into the full capacity of the Black Sea. The new agenda aims to achieve concrete results with the new EU External Plan. The Head of Government thanked Varhelyi, for presenting the economic plan for Eastern Partnership member countries during his recent Georgia visit. He also added that the Georgian Government is actively working on implementing relevant projects. PM Garibashvili highlighted the importance of the support from the European Commission in this endeavor. The meeting at the European Commission highlighted Georgia’s progress towards European and Euro-Atlantic Integration, as well as reforms implemented under Association Agreement. The Prime highlighted the ambitious plans of the government for Georgia to apply for full EU member status in 2024. He added that reforms would continue to this end.
