Chair of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee (U.S. Senator Ben Cardin expressed his deep concern regarding the October 26th parliamentary elections in Georgia. He reiterated the reports of domestic and foreign observers who reported significant issues such violence and intimidation to voters.
Cardin said that the harassment of political opponents by the ruling party has further threatened Georgian Democracy. He reiterated that a democratic decline could prevent Georgia from achieving its EU aspirations. The senator has promised to closely monitor the process, and to work with the Biden-Harris Administration to discuss the implications of recent Georgian events for U.S. – Georgian relations.
