Salome Zurabishvili, the president of Georgia, addressed the peaceful rally on Rustaveli Avenue in October 28, the day after the highly controversial parliamentary elections. She called for the rally on yesterday, rejecting results of the parliamentary elections and saying “nothing could make them legitimate.”
She said to the crowd in front of the Parliament: “You people gathered here have not lost elections! Your vote was stolen, and they also tried to steal your life. But nobody has that right. You won’t allow anyone to do that.” She said: “… “I solemnly swear, I will be with the European path until the end.” We will not stop until we reach Europe’s door, which is the true reality and our future.”
She stated that she spoke with six presidents, including Europeans, and spoke to foreign ministers during the day. She noted the messages from European leaders and the U.S. including the statement by U.S. Secretary Anthony Blinken. She said: “Nobody, except the one who just walked by [referring to Hungarian Premier Viktor Orban who is staying in the hotel on Rustaveli Avenue and was recently in Tbilisi], knows about these elections.”
She also said that society can help in this process because you have a lot of evidence…” She reiterated that this was the theft of elections, the pre-planned operation “which stole our votes, our Parliament and Constitution.” She added that local observer missions, CSOs, and political parties are all involved in the investigation. She said that political parties would present the political action plans. “The Georgian Charter, and our European Path is the only alternative, and we are united behind it. Salome Zurabishvili concluded, “Give your vote to Europe, the future, and to Georgia!”
