Two people were injured and upper floors damaged by a fire caused by a Russian drone strike in Kyiv’s Sviatoshynskyi District overnight on November 2.
Ukraine’s State Emergency Service said that the fire, which started on the upper floors, covered an area of approximately 50 square meters. The attack caused damage to several apartments located on the 15th and 16th floor of the building, with the topmost floor suffering the most destruction.
In the districts of Solomianskyi (Solomianskyi) and Dniprovskyi (Dniprovskyi), debris from drones that had been downed was also found. According to the Kyiv City Military Administration, the attack damaged several cars.
Local authorities report that 18 residents were evacuated from the damaged highrise in Sviatoshynskyi. According to Vitali Klitschko, the mayor of Kyiv, one of the injured has been transferred to a local hospital.
As of 7:45 am local time, the air defense system is still active in Kyiv. Ukraine’s Air Force warned earlier about drone threats against the capital.
The Nov. 2, 2014 attack is the latest in an ongoing series of drone attacks targeting civilian infrastructure in Ukraine’s capital. Authorities reported that on Oct. 29, Russia used drones to attack Kyiv, injuring six civilians in the Solomyanskyi District of Kyiv.
The Kyiv military reported that Russia launched over 2,000 drones in the last month to target both civilian and military targets across Ukraine. Kremlin forces are continuing their offensive against eastern and southern Ukraine.
Robert Shonov, an ex-employee of the U.S. Consulate in Vladivostok was arrested in 2023 on charges of passing information to the U.S. about Russia’s war against Ukraine. He was sentenced on Nov. 1 to four years, 10 months and 10 days in prison.

The recent military assistance was provided under the Presidential Drawdown Authority, which removes weapons from U.S. stockpiles.
