According to UNIAN, Oleh Sentsov is a Ukrainian filmmaker, screenwriter and former political prisoner. He said that Russian leader Vladimir Putin will risk all and go to the ends to seize Ukraine.
Oleh Sentsov is a Russian citizen who was born in Simferopol. He was arrested in 2014 by Russian authorities for terrorism charges after Russia’s annexation Crimea. In 2015, Sentsov was sentenced to a 20-year prison term after a trial that was widely criticized as lacking due process. During Sentsov’s imprisonment, he gained international attention in 2018 for his hunger-strike demanding the release of Ukrainian prisoners of political conviction in Russia.
After his release in September 2019 he returned to Ukraine where he continued his activism. Sentsov, who joined the Ukrainian military in 2022 during the war with Russia and actively called for international assistance against Russian aggression.
“Putin put everything on the table. It is his last chapter in his political life and he will fight to the end. We must be prepared to defend ourselves until the end, otherwise we will lose,” said Ukrainian director.
Sentsov says that it is important to understand that Russia wishes to destroy Ukraine as a nation, and as a sovereign state.
“Putin is indifferent towards everyone. He has set this goal.” Sentsov claimed that Putin has the human and military resources to achieve his goal, as well as a partner who is a pariah state. He also has money.
The director believes that the war could last a long time. He said that Putin was unwilling to negotiate with Ukraine.
“Putin won’t enter into any negotiations with Ukraine on the terms Ukraine wants to see.” Former political prisoner says that his proposal is to surrender.
Sentsov said that he will not be able to win without liberating Crimea, regardless of the end of active combat.
“This war began when Crimea was occupied and will end only with the deoccupation of Crimea. When I say the war could last 10 years, I mean also the de-occupation in Crimea. This will happen when all of our territories are liberated and Russia is de facto defeated. “Only then will it be a win,” explained the director.
Sentsov said that the war is characterized by a single word: injustice. According to him this does not apply only to mobilization where some people fight and others find ways to avoid it.
