The IWSC announced this week that it will bring its internationally respected wine awards to Georgia in October. This is a unique opportunity for Georgian wine producers to benefit from a competition that is hosted in their country.
Following its successful local judging in South Africa and Conegliano-Valdobbiadene earlier this summer, the IWSC is now inviting producers in Georgia to enter its awards.
The awards, which are being judged in conjunction with the Gurjaani Wine Festival – a major regional event – will be announced at the Festival on Saturday, 13 October.
“A medal-winning wine can be a great boost for any Georgian winery looking to expand their UK and global sales,” said Sarah Abbott MW who will be heading the panel of expert jugglers. “All buyers take medals into consideration, especially when a new region like Georgia is emerging. It can be difficult for wineries, however, to send samples overseas. This can be a barrier.
This collaboration is a unique opportunity for Georgian producers, to benefit from a competition internationally recognized, hosted in their own country. It is a powerful combination between UK and Georgian wine-judging expertise, with a group of highly respected and knowledgeable judges.”
The judging panel includes wine buyers Megan Clarke, Maggie Macpherson and head sommeliers Salvatore Castano, and Serdar Balkaya.
Giorgi Dakishvili, Anna Godabrelidze and other Georgian experts have been confirmed as judges. The IWSC website has all the information you need to know about how to take part in the judging. The deadline for entry to the IWSC Georgia wine judging is 7 October.
