Ukraine reports that 31 Shahed drones were downed, with 14 other drones crashing and 3 diverted to Belarus.
Ukraine’s Air Force announced on 1 November 2024 that it had successfully intercepted a large-scale Russian air assault that targeted several regions overnight. The attack began at 18:00 hours on 31 October and involved three guided aircraft missiles Kh-59/69 fired from the occupied part of Kherson Oblast, as well as 48 one-way attack Shahed drones.
Russia continues to launch deliberate daily air strikes on residential areas, in an attempt to terrorize civilians. Every night, the Russian forces launch dozens – usually Iranian designed – Shahed 131 and 136 long-range “kamikaze drones. They also often launch several missiles.
The Ukrainian Air Force has stated that the Russian drone attack originated in Russia, from Orel and Kursk. With guided aircraft bombs, tactical aviation targeted Kharkiv Oblast, Sumy Oblast, and Zaporizhzhia oblast.
By 08:00 on 1 November, air defense systems confirmed shooting down 31 Russian drones. Additional 14 drones disappeared from radars, most likely due to crashing. Three drones were tracked as they moved towards Belarus. According to the report, one guided aviation missile Kh59/69) was also successfully intercepted.
The operation involved multiple military elements, including anti-aircraft weapons troops, aviation, electronic war units, and mobile firing groups from Ukraine’s Air and Defense Forces. Air defense systems were active throughout Kirovohrad Oblast, Kyiv Oblast, Vinnytsia Oblast, Zhytomyr Oblast, Khmelnytskyi Oblast, Sumy Oblast, Odesa Oblast, and Poltava Oblast.
The attack caused damage, even though preliminary reports indicated that there were no casualties. The report states that the impact of missiles and drone debris caused damage to residential buildings and civilian enterprises in Poltava and Cherkasy Oblasts as well as Kyiv and Odesa Oblasts.
