Seoul intensifies intelligence cooperation with Ukrainian forces, while Kyiv expands its psychological warfare campaign against Pyongyang troops by sending surrender messages.
VOA cites a high-ranking Ukrainian government official as saying that Ukraine is intensifying their psychological warfare campaign against North Korean troops who are preparing to join Russian Forces. One video appeals for surrender. Andrii Kovalenko is the head of the Center for Combating Disinformation within Ukraine’s National Security and Defense Council. According to him, “in the future there will be more videos featuring North Koreans.”
Since February 2022, Russia has strengthened military ties with North Korea, securing more than 2,000,000 artillery rounds and ballistic missiles. Both countries signed a mutual defence pact in the month of June. South Korea reported that 3,000 North Korean soldiers were training in Russia. This number is expected to increase to 10,000 by the end of December. Ukraine confirmed that initial units have arrived at the Kursk combat zone.
A Ukrainian video in Korean promotes “a new camp for North Korean prisoners of war” by promising warm, well-lit, separate beds and three daily meals with meat, fresh vegetables, bread, etc.
The campaign could receive a boost after South Korean Defense minister Kim Yong-hyun said that Seoul would send military analysts to North Korea to analyze their troops on the battlefield.
