UN Secretary General’very concerned about reports of North Korean troops’ in Russia

In a statement released on Nov. 3, Guterres’ spokesperson Stephane Dujarric said that Guterres was “very concerned” by reports that North Korean soldiers were currently in Russia.
The statement comes after recent reports that 8,000 North Korean soldiers are gathered in Russia’s Kursk Oblast, preparing to fight alongside Russian forces.
The statement read: “The Secretary-General expresses grave concern about reports that troops from the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea, also known as , are being sent to Russia and possibly deployed to the conflict zones.”
“This would be a very dangerous escalation in the war in Ukraine.” All efforts must be made to prevent any internationalization of the conflict.
The statement did neither confirm nor deny reports of North Korean troops in Russia. Nor did it discuss how military cooperation between Moscow, Pyongyang and the would be interpreted or current Security Council Resolutions.
Ukraine and the United States accuse Russia of violating U.N. Charter by involving Pyongyang into the war due to existing sanctions on North Korea.
Guterres, according to the statement, supports “all meaningful attempts towards a just and lasting peace in Ukraine.”
Volodymyr Zelensky, the president of Ukraine, issued an urgent warning on November 1, to the about North Korea. He called on allies to stop “just looking” as the threat posed by Pyongyang escalates. He has repeatedly urged both China and the West, to go beyond words and take action.
Guterres received criticism from Ukraine after he visited Russia to participate in the BRICS Summit in October, where he met Russian President Vladimir Putin.
Zelensky then reportedly rejected Guterres’ attempt to visit Ukraine because of his participation in Guterres’ summit.
