Kazem Jalali, the Iranian Ambassador to Russia, said on November 4 that Russia will launch two Iranian Satellites, Kowsar & Hodhod into orbit using a Soyuz Launcher on Nov. 5.
Jalali stated on X that “in continuation of the development scientific and technological collaboration between and Russia, Kowsar, and Hodhow will be launched in 500-kilometer orbit by a Soyuz Launcher on Tuesday, November (5) at 2:48 Tehran Time.”
The delivery of two satellites to Russia, which was reported on October 12, highlights the growing cooperation between the two Western-sanctioned nations.
Kowsar is a high-resolution satellite for imaging. It’ designed to be used in agriculture, environmental monitoring and disaster management. Hodhod is a small communication satellite that aims to provide satellite connectivity in remote areas where terrestrial networks are limited.
The United States has expressed concern about the possible military implications of Russia’s launch of Iranian satellites in orbit in February, and again in 2022. These officials are concerned that the satellites may support Russia’s military operations in Ukraine, and assist Iran to monitor military targets throughout Israel and the Middle East.
Since the outbreak of a full-scale conflict in 2022, the ties between Moscow & Tehran have grown. Iran has supplied Russia with thousands that were used in attacks on Ukraine and even for close-range missiles.
