Volodymyr Zelensky, the President of Ukraine, said on November 4 that Russian forces have launched ten times more drones of the type Shahed against Ukraine than they did in the fall.
Moscow has increased drone strikes against Kyiv and other parts of the country while reducing the use of cruise and ballistic missiles that are more powerful and difficult to intercept.
According to Ukraine’s General Staff, Russia launched more than 2,00 strike drones in October, breaking its previous record of nearly 700 set in September.
Zelensky, after a meeting with top Ukrainian officials earlier that day, said: “We must counter them fully.”
Anatolii Khryvonozhko (acting Air Force Commander) briefed President on countering Russian aerial attack, strengthening air defense, mobile fire groups and developing new solutions for combating guided bombs.
According to authorities, Russian drones flew low and in waves, probably trying to find weaknesses in Ukraine’s aerial defense.
Zelensky reported that over the past week Russia has attacked Ukraine with more than 900 guided aerial weapons, almost 500 Shahed drones and around 30 missiles.
In January, Russian President Vladimir Putin issued a decree that allows foreigners who served in the Russian Army for a year on a contract basis, as well as close relatives of those individuals, to apply for Russian citizenship using a simplified process.
In a television interview on November 4, Andriy Yeromak, head of Ukraine’s Presidential Office said that Ukraine does not hold direct talks with Russia about an energy ceasefire, but is open to the idea of a third party mediating the implementation the peace formula.

City officials reported that on Nov. 3, Russia launched its latest drone strike overnight on Ukraine. The attack lasted more than five hours and targeted the capital. Kyiv was rocked by several waves of explosions throughout the night.
