As we left the opposition with a smile with our various decisions in 2020 and 2021, so will they remain with the decisions made by the parliament at different times. Shalva Papuashvili, the Chairman of Georgia‘s Parliament, responded to a question during the briefing about whether “Georgian Dream”, the opposition, intended to cancel their mandates in the event of a court appeal.
Papuashvili, however, is confident that all opposition parties, or at least those who are currently in the parliament, will be in the Parliament after the 2020 parliamentary election.
“We don’t want to make decisions in advance, but let’s wait and see what the opposition does first. This is a circus show that we can see and observe in reality. It’s a disgraced group of opposition that the Georgian people have given their rightful place to, as they were a group who wanted to surrender the country to foreign groups, and impose other people’s will on this country. Let’s wait and see what they do. It is impossible to imagine that they could have entered the Parliament in today’s circumstances. But let’s look back at the past and see if they were able to do the same thing. We acted the same in 2020 as we did now, in the interest of our country. There is still time for them to ask us to end their mandates. Everyone was convinced until then that they could not open the lists and they would become members of Georgia’s Parliament. They did not want to see their salaries increase. I wonder also if they’ll come, whether they get the salary increase or not, and how they’ll behave. I told you that they had no dignity. We saw it in 2021, when they demanded to be paid back the wages they were denied.
As we made the opposition smile with our decisions in 2020, the next three years, and 2022, the same will be true with the decisions the parliament makes at different times.
If they give this order, they will all enter the parliament in the same way that they entered. If it had been done according to their plans and wishes, we would’ve seen tents set up yesterday.
Papuashvili also noted that, in addition to the question of whether the ruling power intends to ban the opposition once again, the opposition can ban themselves even without the ruling power’s intervention.
“Let’s see what happens, maybe the opposition will ban themselves.” Let’s wait and see what they decide. Our decision may not even be needed, as the opposition will ban themselves. We promised it to our citizens, and they saw how fragmented the opposition was. We really fulfilled this promise, which was to weaken the National Movement. As for the cancellation, watch events, perhaps they will cancel themselves,” Papuashvili stated.
