“Fotyga is a fighter for Georgia who is against Putin. It is not surprising she was not allowed see me as a prisoner of Putin,” wrote the third president of Georgia Mikheil Sakaashvili on social media about the visit of MEP Anna Fotyga to Georgia.
Saakashvili expressed gratitude to the MEP for his solidarity.
“During our last meeting in Strasbourg, in September, Anna Fotyga questioned me about whether I thought I’d be tortured after returning to Georgia. I replied that I didn’t think so.
“Anna Fotyga, the Minister of Foreign affairs at the time Lech Kaczynski came to save Georgia by risking his life. Fotyga, a noble person and a strong fighter for Georgia who is against Putin, is a strong and noble woman. It is not surprising that she was denied the opportunity to see me as a prisoner of Putin.
“Thank you Anna, for your humanity, and solidarity. I am certain that those who refused to let you in won’t be near the levers of authority any time soon, and Georgia will welcome you with its old generosity and gratitude,” he wrote in a Facebook statement.
MEP Fotyga addressed Mikheil Sakaashvili after the Ministry of Justice refused to allow her to meet the ex-president.

In the course of her visit, MEP Elene Khoshtaria met with the leader of the political party Droa, who was also on a hunger-strike in the Parliament Building in support of Saakashvili.
Fotyga said after the meeting, “All I can say is encouraging words.”
