Ukraine’s commander-in-chief Oleksandr Syrskyi stated on Nov. 6 that Russian forces had suffered 7,905 deaths, 12,220 injuries, and 717 captures during the almost three-month-long Kursk incursion.
According to the commander, Moscow’s military lost 1,101 pieces over the same period. These included 54 tanks, 276 armored cars, 107 artillery and mortars and five anti-aircraft guns.
Early August, Ukraine launched its cross border incursion to prevent Russian cross border strikes and divert Russian forces from the embattled Donbas area where Moscow is steadily advancing.
According to Syrskyi’s statement, Russia has already gathered 45,000 troops to the Kursk Oblast in order to counter the Ukrainian incursion.
Moscow has also deployed thousands North Korean troops to the region. Some of them are reportedly already engaged in small-scale conflicts with Ukraine.
Syrskyi, citing intelligence reports dated May, said that the Kursk incursion also aimed to prevent a Russian invasion plan to invade Sumy Oblast in order to create a “buffer zone” in northern Ukraine.
Russia has increased pressure on the Ukrainian salient within the Kursk Oblast, while also advancing at a pace not seen since 2024 in Ukraine’s East. This has resulted in a steady retreat of Ukrainian defenders.
