In post on X, Hungary’s Prime Minster Orban congratulated Donald Trump for his victory in the U.S. Presidential election on Nov. 6,
“The biggest comeback in U.S. politics history!” Congratulations to President Donald Trump for his incredible victory. “A much needed victory for the World!” Orban posted.
The results of the vote on Nov. 5 are yet to be released, but Trump is close to victory. He only needs a few more electoral votes to reach the coveted 270.
Since 2016, Hungary’s Prime Minister has been a vocal Trump supporter, saying that he would celebrate Trump’s victory with champagne bottles.
Orban told journalists during a recent trip to the , Strasbourg, that “we will open several bottles if Trump returns”.
Orban’s leadership has led to Hungary repeatedly blocking aid to Kyiv and pushing for negotiations with Moscow.
Orban said “Europe cannot remain pro war” if Trump is elected U.S. president, allegedly referring to EU defense assistance to Ukraine which Orban has repeatedly criticized.
Other world leaders have also congratulated Trump.
Volodymyr Zelensky, the Ukrainian President, expressed his appreciation for Trump’s “commitment” to the “peace through strength” approach. He also expressed hope for “strong bipartisan US support for Ukraine.”
“I just congratulated Donald Trump for his election as the President of the United States. Mark Rutte, NATO Secretary General, said that Trump’s leadership will be crucial to the future of our Alliance.
“Congratulations to President Trump. We are ready to work together, as we have done for the past four years. Your convictions and mine. With respect and ambition. “For more peace and prosperity,” wrote president Emmanuel Macron.
Keir Starmer, the U.K. prime minister, said he “looked forward to working with Trump in the years to come.”
“As our closest allies, we stand together in defense of the values that we share, such as freedom, democracy and enterprise.”
