Marco Rubio, Republican Senator from Florida, stated on air that the full-scale Russian war against Ukraine had reached a “stalemate”. He added that it “needs a conclusion” after Donald Trump was elected U.S. President.
Rubio said that Trump, as a successful businessman, would not reveal his negotiation tactic to end the war in Russia.
“You don’t have to be a fan (of Russian President) Vladimir Putin in order to want the war ended,” the senator continued.
Trump has repeatedly stated that if he is elected president he will end the war with Russia within 24 hours, without providing any details on how he intends to do it.
The Financial Times (FT), reported on October 28 that Trump could aim to effectively freeze war and reject Ukraine joining NATO in the near future, if not “until Putin departs the stage.”
Rubio, who is reported to be on the list of candidates to become the secretary of state under Trump, called Ukrainians “incredibly brave and powerful” but acknowledged that “the reality of war” exists.
“That doesn’t necessarily mean that we are excited or happy about what Vladimir Putin has done, but there needs to be some commonsense here.” Rubio said that we are funding a stalemate which is costing lives, and Ukraine will take 100 years to rebuild.
Trump has mocked President Volodymyr Zelensky, calling him the “greatest seller on earth.”
Zelensky had earlier in the day congratulated Trump for his victory in the U.S. Presidential election, and expressed hopes for “strong, bipartisan support for Ukraine” in the United States.
