According to geolocated footage, and official reports, Russian forces have taken multiple settlements in eastern Ukraine. Ukrainian forces have recovered positions near Chasiv Yar.
According to an analysis of geolocated footage taken on 4-5 November, Ukrainian forces have reclaimed positions lost south of Chasiv Yar while Russian forces are advancingv near Toretsk and Pokrovsk as well as in the Kurakhove directions.
Over the past year, Russia has focused on seizing Ukraine’s controlled areas in Donetsk Oblast. Major attacks have occurred near Pokrovsk Selydove Chasiv Yar and other towns.
The Institute for the Study of War reported on 5th November that Russian forces advanced east of Stupochky, Orikhovo Vassylivka and Stupochky while Ukrainian forces gained ground near Chasiv Yar.
Russian forces captured Druzhba, in the direction of Toretsk. According to ISW, Russian forces continued their operations along multiple axes. They attacked “near Toretsk, northwest of Toretsk, in the direction Kostyantynivka, northeast of Toretsk, near Dachne”, and other locations.
The UK Ministry of Defense confirms the Russian forces have taken Hirnyk, northeast of Kurakhove. Ukrainian military observer Kostyantyn Mashovets reports that Ukrainian forces withdrew from the Izmailivka-Hirnyk-Kurakhivka-Ostrivske area.
Mashovets details the Russian order of battle in the Kurakhove direction, noting that “elements of the Russian 90th Tank Division, 27th Motorized Rifle Division, and the 5th, 110th, and 114th motorized rifle brigades are operating along the Ukrainsk-Novoselydivka-Novodmytrivka line.”
Mashovets reports that the Russians have significant reserves in this area, including a motorized rifle regiment, three battalions from the 51st CAA, and a tank battalion.
