The Elysee Palace reported that Emmanuel Macron, Donald Trump and their post-election conversation agreed to continue the dialogue on Ukraine and Middle East conflict during their post election conversation.
Le Figaro reported that French President Emmanuel Macron had a 25-minute telephone conversation with Donald Trump after the latter’s win in the US presidential elections.
According to the Elysee Palace both leaders expressed a “desire to work towards the return of peace, stability and security” amid “ongoing international crises.”
Le Figaro reports that Macron stressed the importance of Europe’s involvement and told Trump he was ready to continue the conversation and work with him on shared concerns including the wars taking place in Ukraine and the Middle East.
Macron was one of the first EU leaders who congratulated Trump on his presidential victory on 5 November.
The Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy congratulated Trump for his “impressive” win.
“I am grateful for President Trump’s commitment in global affairs to the ‘peace by strength’ approach. This is the principle that can bring a just peace to Ukraine. Zelenskyy wrote in X.
Hungarian Prime Minster Viktor Orban called it “the biggest comeback” in US political history, while Hungarian Minister of Foreign Affairs Peter Szijjarto said that “there are more chances than ever to establish peace” in Ukraine following nearly a 1000 days of war.
