During his evening address, on 5 November, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy warned that the initial combat encounters between North Korean soldiers and Ukrainian soldiers marked “a new chapter in instability in the World”.
“Terror is spread like a disease when there is not enough resistance. Now, the opposition must become enough. Zelenskyy’s video address stated that the resistance must be sufficiently strong.
According to Ukraine’s intelligence services, around 11,000 North Korean soldiers have been training in eastern Russia to be deployed against Ukraine. South Korean intelligence has confirmed reports that Russia is training special forces from North Korea for combat in Ukraine.
NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte has confirmed the presence of North Korean forces and their redeployment in Russia’s Kursk Oblast.
Rustem Umerov, Ukraine’s Minister of Defense, confirmed that the first combat engagements between North Korean troops and Russian forces took place.
Ukrainian intelligence reports that Russia equipped these foreign soldiers with infantry weapons including mortars and automatic rifles. They also reported machine guns and rifles.
The Washington Post reported that Putin would offer Kim Jong Un money and military technology in exchange for military personnel.
