The Kremlin has announced that Vladimir Putin won’t congratulate Donald Trump for his election win, calling it “internal US matters.”
Dmitry Peskov said that the Russian leader Vladimir Putin does not plan to congratulate Donald Trump for his victory in the US Presidential election. He made this statement in comments to Russian media. According to UNIAN, he described the US election as an “internal matter” of that country.
Donald Trump’s return as president raises concerns over US relations with Ukraine. Trump claimed that he could end Ukraine’s war “within 24 hour,” which many viewed as being overly simplistic. Reports indicate that he could pressure Ukraine to cede land and abandon NATO ambitions, in line with his advisors’ proposals for a demilitarized area. Ukraine fears his unpredictable approach will diminish US support and leave Eastern Europe vulnerable to Russian aggression, changing the dynamics of the conflict.
Peskov said that relations between Russia and the US have reached their lowest point ever, and that their future depends on US leadership. The Kremlin also denied any allegations of interference in US election.
Peskov also noted that Putin was open to dialogue and contact with the US, and he mentioned a possible telephone conversation with Trump. The Kremlin’s assessment of Trump’s presidency will be based on Trump’s initial statements about Russia and his concrete acts.
“Russia will judge US government actions, and any hypothetical discussion about plans to end war in Ukraine is inappropriate. Washington is not interested in a constructive dialogue with Putin, but Washington has the opposite attitude. Peskov said that it would be clear whether the situation will change in January. He added that the US might help end the conflict.
Donald Trump, a Republican, will return to the White House after securing the necessary electoral vote. Donald Trump announced his victory in the US Presidential election in an address to supporters in Florida a few hours later. In his speech, Trump declared his intention to end wars, including that in Ukraine.
