Shoigu: The West must negotiate the end of war based on “current realities”

Sergei Shoigu said that the West should recognize the fact that is winning the war in Ukraine and begin negotiations, according to the Russian state news agency TASS.
Shoigu’s statements comes shortly after former President Donald Trump, the Republican nominee for the U.S. Presidential election, won November 5.
Trump’s victory comes at a particularly precarious time in the war as Russian troops are advancing rapidly in Donetsk Oblast. The president-elect had previously voiced his desire to “get out” from the war and criticized assistance to Ukraine.
Former Defense Minister Shoigu claimed that the West was trying to use Ukraine as a way to inflict strategic defeat on Russia. He added that the plan failed.
“The West faces a choice – to continue funding (the war) while destroying the Ukrainian people or to acknowledge the current realities and begin negotiations,” Shoigu stated.
Trump has criticised President Volodymyr Zelensky on the campaign trail.
He blamed Zelensky, U.S. president Joe Biden and Russian for the invasion of Ukraine without mentioning Russian leader Vladimir Putin. Trump also called Zelensky a “salesman”, for securing too much military assistance.
During the campaign, Trump said that if he returned to the he would end Russia’s conflict in Ukraine within “24-hours.” In his victory speech he hinted at the message once again, telling his cheering fans, “I am going to stop wars.”
The Wall Street Journal reported the plan could include delaying Ukraine’s NATO membership by at least 20-years, freezing the war on the front lines and creating a demilitarized area in the east.
