Belarus cracks down on election in January, arresting over 100 people

Viasna reported on Nov. 6 that Belarusian authorities had initiated a wave arrests in advance of the January election.
Alexander Lukashenko is seeking his seventh term as Belarusian dictator. He has been in power since 1995.
Viasna reports that over 100 people were detained during the last week. Many of those arrested were linked to online neighborhood chats that authorities have labeled as “extremist” or accused of being part a conspiracy.
These local chats that were once used to coordinate 2020 demonstrations against alleged electoral fraud are now seen as threats.
Many detainees – including – are held in harsh conditions.
Sviatlana Sikhanouskaya, an exiled opposition leader, condemned the crackdown. She called on the West for a response and encouraged Belarusians to vote against any candidate.
Belarus hasn’t held free or fair in the country since 1994. The previous presidential elections, which Lukashenko claimed he had won by a wide margin with 80%, sparked nationwide protests, and a subsequent crackdown against dissent.
In order to quell the opposition, Lukashenko’s regime closed down over 1,700 non profit civic organizations, banned all political parties loyal only to the regime and jailed more than 1,300 political prisoners.

The Kyiv City Militia Administration reported that Russia launched a strike on Kyiv over night on Nov. 6. It struck a residential building and an auto repair shop.
Two administration officials told Politico the White House planned to speed the delivery of weapons amid concerns that a Trump administration in the future would stop weapons shipments before reaching Kyiv.
Zelensky posted on social media that he had congratulated for his victory in the presidential election.
Scholz partially justified his decision in a statement he issued following the dismissal. He noted that he had asked Lindner, who was responsible for the spending rules, to relax them to allow more aid to Ukraine. Lindner refused.

“That doesn’t necessarily mean that we are celebrating what Vladimir Putin did, or that we are excited about it. But I think there needs to be some commonsense here.” Rubio said that we are funding a stalemate which is costing lives. “Ukraine will take 100 years to rebuild, with all the challenges they face.”

Volodymyr Zelensky, President of Ukraine, said: “We will discuss the security challenges in Europe as well as opportunities for all partners.”
“This is not the final defeat. It is only a battle lost,” pro-Russian newcomer political Alexandr Stoianoglo stated three days after voting.
Denyslysenko, the head of the department that focuses on war crimes, stated that 49 criminal investigations are underway regarding the executions of Ukrainian POWs.
Trump has repeatedly stated that he could end the war with Russia “in 24 hours.” What is his plan for the future?
Former Russian President Dmitry stated that “Trump has a quality which is useful to us. As a businessman at heart, he hates to spend money on freeloaders and idiotic allies. He also dislikes charity projects and greedy organisations.”
The Russian newspaper Vedomosti reported that on November 5, four unnamed sources in importing companies said that the Chinese state-owned Sinosure, which insures export supplies for non-payment, has started to refuse to work with Russian entrepreneurs.
According to EXPRO calculations, gross natural-gas production increased by .3% in October 2020 compared to the same period last year, reaching 1.66 billion cubic meters, which is the highest level since the month of January 2022.
