The Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban stated on Nov. 8 that Europe would not be able finance Ukraine’s defence against a full-scale Russian invasion without U.S. assistance.
Orban told Bloomberg that the Americans would win this war.
Donald Trump’s election victory on Nov. 5 has caused concern that U.S. assistance to Ukraine could soon cease once he becomes president.
Orban said that Europe cannot finance this war alone.
Orban’s leadership has led Hungary to repeatedly block aid to Kyiv and push for negotiations with Moscow. They have also spouted Kremlin talking-points. Orban has been lobbying aggressively since he assumed the presidency of the European Commission (EC) in July to act as a mediator between Ukraine and Russia.
Orban also urged that the European Union change its strategy in regard to the war in Ukraine, and reiterated his calls for “a truce and peace talks.”
He also claimed that “recent events have proven his conclusion after his controversial “diplomatic missions” to Kyiv Moscow and Beijing. He also claimed that Ukraine currently loses the war.
Trump’s comments about Ukraine have focused on speedy results rather than long-term support. He has also refrained from saying that he wants Ukraine triumph over Russia.
Ukraine is bracing itself for another brutal winter of Russian attacks on its infrastructure as it becomes anxious over the possible withdrawal from U.S. assistance.
North Korean troops are now in Russia to help the full-scale invasion by Moscow.
“Nobody is safe in Ukraine until Russia ends its aggression,” Estonian Foreign Affairs Minister Margus Tsahkna stated in a social media post on Nov. 8th.
