Ruslan Busargin, the local governor, reported that a Ukrainian drone had targeted Saratov in Russia overnight on November 8, 2018.
Busargin said that air defenses shot down the drone in the city, and debris fell into the industrial zone in the Zavodsky District. He did not report any injuries or damage.
The city is home to the Saratov Oil Refinery. Previously known as the Cracking Plant. It is part of Rosneft – the state-run oil firm. The refinery is situated in the Zavodsky District of the city.
Astra Telegram reported that local residents claimed the drone strike caused a fire at the refinery.
The Kyiv Independent was unable to verify the claims.

According to a Russian Defense Ministry report, 17 Ukrainian drones have been “destroyed and interception” over the past 24 hours. Six drones are reported to have been shot down over Saratov Oblast.
Saratov, a city located in southwest Russia, is approximately 1,500 kilometers away from the border of Ukraine.
It is not the first drone attack on Saratov Oblast. Drones are reported to have struck Saratov Oblast over night on August 26. At least four civilians are reported to have been injured in the attack.
Five times, guided aerial bombs were used by Russia to strike Zaporizhzhia. The attack damaged houses, an apartment building and a cancer hospital.
The air raid alert was sounded in Kyiv at around 9:30 pm local time on November 7, but the all-clear was not given until just after 7 am the next morning.
Since Ukraine launched its cross-border offensive at the beginning of August, Kursk Oblast has been racked by heavy fighting.
This includes 1,580 casualties that Russian forces have suffered in the last day.
The attack caused damage to multiple residential buildings as well as a local primary school. According to preliminary information, one person died and nine others were injured.
Local authorities reported that at least 25 people were injured, and that there may be more trapped under the rubble. Search and rescue operations continue at the building.
Lindner said that Scholz had fired the former Finance Minister Christian Lindner because he suggested sending Ukraine Taurus rockets instead of financial assistance, Lindner said.
